Recipe naan pizza

Easy Naan Pizza (April 2019).


Naan bread is a true Indian classic. Nadine and Jörg from the food blog "" have turned the recipe classic into a vegan pizza.

Ingredients for 6 small naan pizzas

  • 250g wheat flour
  • 1/2 dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt (eg sea salt Ibiza from
  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • 70g soy yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 100 ml of warm tap water
  • 1 small onion (cut into fine rings)
  • 1 can of okra pies in tomato sauce (eg in Turkish supermarket)
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1/2 chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp. Cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt (eg sea salt Ibiza from
  • 1/2 tsp coriander (dried)

Optional: boiled potato pieces or some vegan cheese (eg Wilmersburger pizza mash)

The Naan dough is stirred together very quickly, but it should go about 2-3 hours before preparation. First, put the wheat flour, the yeast, the baking powder, the salt and the sugar in a mixing bowl and mix everything together. Now add the soy yoghurt, the oil and the water and stir well with a hand mixer. If the dough sticks very hard, just add a little more flour until it fits. Continue to "collect" all the dough pieces in the mixing bowl with the dough and form the dough into a "ball".

Cover the mixing bowl with a clean kitchen towel and leave the dough for about 2-3 hours, preferably in a warm place, to "go" until its size has doubled.

When the dough is ready, add it to a floured paste, divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and heat the oven to 240 degrees. The baking tray should also be preheated in the oven. One after the other, shape the dough into oval pancakes about 20 cm long. When the temperature in the oven is up, place the pancakes on a baking paper and then in the oven.

The pancakes should now bake for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, you can prepare the surface. Add the preserved okra pods to the mixing bowl and mix with the chopped garlic, chilies and spices. Then take out the naan patties, brush them a little with oil (tastes great with chilli or garlic oil) and add some of the okra mixture to each flatbread. On top of that, put the onion rings, the pieces of potato and sprinkle some vegan cheese on top.

Again for about 5-6 minutes at 180 degrees in the oven.
