Blueberry jam with blackberries: the recipe

Those who have their own garden with blackberries know how delicious the dark, ripe fruits can be - they also bring a lot of color and, above all, aroma to this spread. A dash of cassis liqueur completes the special taste, but can be omitted in the preparation for a child-friendly variant.

Ingredients for 5 glasses (à 400 ml)

  • 1 kg of blueberries
  • 500 g blackberries
  • 500 g jam sugar 3: 1
  • 5 tablespoons cassis liqueur
  • grated peel of 1 organic orange


  1. Carefully wash the blueberries and blackberries and crush with a fork, mix with sugar.
  2. Bring to a boil while stirring, boil in a bubbling manner and then make the gelling sample. Add the liqueur and orange peel, mix well.
  3. Fill the fruit mixture in clean, preferably sterilized glasses, close it quickly and turn it upside down.

Blueberry or blueberry?

Have you ever wondered where the difference between blueberry and blueberry is? Is there even one? The answer is yes! Both belong to the same genus and differ in the cultivation, size and color of the pulp - in colloquial language they are called blueberry or blueberry. Fresh or as a dried blueberry they taste wonderful in cereals, smoothies or as a snack in between. Which variety you use for the blueberry jam depends on your personal taste - but it is mainly the fresh fruits of the blueberry that lie on the fruit stalls.

The fruity spread sometimes causes confusion and that's the name: jam, jam (extra), jelly or even fruit spread? Yes, how then? Guilt is the jam regulation or rather it should provide more insight and is only valid if you want to trade in the fruit for the bread. Incidentally, these rules do not apply to farmer or weekly markets and home you may call their fruit spread anyway anyway you want!
