Sewing instructions Practical shopping bag

Grocery Bag Tutorial (May 2019).

Anonim

The practical shopping bag convinces with a beautiful color combination, fancy pattern and sturdy handles made of fabric - perfect for your next purchase. These and many other great sewing instructions can be found in the book "Sewing - how it works" by Andrea Müller, published by GU.

Material: cotton fabric, each 140 cm wide: pink, 35 cm, gray blue, 30 cm, white, 55 cm, cotton webbing in creamy white, 140 x 3 cm, white sewing thread, double-sided adhesive tape
Finished size: 37 x 46 cm

Cut the three pieces of the front of the bag from the white (A), pink (B) and blue-gray (C) fabric and the back (D) from the white fabric. You can use a pair of scissors, but the best is with a rotary cutter
and a long ruler. After trimming, nibble all edges with a zigzag stitch (▸ page 18).

2nd step

It is important that the point is exactly on the seam of part A / B. Now sew together the outer edge of C / A with a straight stitch (stitch length 2.5) to the middle point.

5th step

Now fix the back of the cloth bag (Part D) with pins right to right on the front part just finished. Then stitch from the top right to the top left in the straight stitch (stitch length 2.5) along the edge. At each corner, use the handwheel of the sewing machine to pierce the needle into the fabric, lift the presser foot, turn the fabric piece through 90 °, lower the presser foot, and continue sewing. Do not forget sewing at the beginning and at the end of sewing! Before turning the bag to the right, trim the corners with scissors. Then iron the bag.

6th step

Now provide the upper edge with a simple hem (▸ page 24). To do this, fold in the edge by 2 cm, iron it and fix it with pins. Then use a straight stitch (stitch length 2.5) to stitch the top of the bag at a distance of 1.8 cm from the edge.

Now only the bag handles are missing. Halve the webbing in two 70 cm long pieces. Fix the strap ends with tape on the right side of the fabric. The exact position you can see from the pattern. To do this, first attach the tape to the front and left of the front of the bag (12 cm from the outer edge, 5 cm to the upper edge). Then place the ends of the webbing on the tape centered. Make sure that the webbing does not twist.

8th step

Sew both ends of the carrying handle crosswise as shown in the pattern on the front of the bag with a straight stitch (stitch length 2.5). Repeat these steps with the second strap on the back of the bag. Finally, iron the bag. And now: a successful purchase!
